16 – Formation de la FIRA – AER
À la fin de la saison 1930-1931, les fédérations britanniques rompent toute relation avec le rugby français.
C’est sous l’influence de la France et de l’Allemagne que plusieurs fédérations européennes forment la Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA) en 1934. Les membres fondateurs sont la France, l’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas, le Portugal, l’Italie, la Roumanie, la Suède, la Tchécoslovaquie et la Catalogne (pour l’Espagne).
La première réunion de la FIRA a lieu le 2 janvier 1934 à Paris. Son premier président élu est le français Roger Dantou.
En 1969, la FIRA lance un tournoi U19 (moins de 19 ans), qui devient la plus large rencontre de rugby au monde
En 1995, la FIRA – AER (Association européenne de rugby) devient membre de l’IRB et son représentant rejoint le comité IRB.
La FIRA – AER (Association européenne de Rugby) est la plus grande organisation régionale de l’IRB, avec 43 fédérations membres. Elle organise un tournoi européen pour les fédérations continentales, avec plusieurs divisions (promotion/relégation) et un tournoi junior annuel.
Les nations jouant en première division de la FIRA-AER se battent pour la Coupe d’Europe. Le tournoi surnommé « des Six Nations B » a récemment été dominé par la Roumanie, la Géorgie et le Portugal, bien que la Russie, la République tchèque, l’Espagne et l’Ukraine se soient bien défendues.

16. Formation of FIRA – AER
At the end of the 1930-1931 season the Home Unions broke off relations with French rugby.
Several Continental Unions at the instigation of the French and German Federations formed the Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA) in 1934. France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Catalonia (for Spain) were the founding members.
The first meeting of FIRA took place on January 2, 1934 in Paris. Monsieur Roger Dantou of France was elected the first FIRA President.
In 1969, FIRA launched an U19 tournament which became the biggest rugby tournament in the world
In 1995, FIRA – AER (Association of European Rugby) became a member of the IRB and its representative joined the IRB Council.
FIRA – AER (Association of European Rugby) is the largest IRB regional organisation with 43 Unions in its membership. It runs a senior European Championship for the Continental Federations divided into several divisions (promotion/relegation), and an annual youth Championship.
The nations playing in the first division of FIRA-AER battle for the European Nations Cup. The tournament nicknamed the “Six Nations B” has been dominated recently by Romania, Georgia and Portugal, though Russia, the Czech Republic, Spain and Ukraine have played their part.

Fu sotto l’influenza di Francia e Germania che diverse federazioni europee formarono la Federazione Internazionale di Rugby Amatoriale (FIRA) nel 1934. I membri fondatori erano Francia, Germania, Paesi Bassi, Portogallo, Italia, Romania, Svezia, Cecoslovacchia e Catalogna (per la Spagna).
La prima riunione della FIRA si svolse il 2 gennaio 1934 a Parigi. Il primo presidente eletto fu il francese Roger Dantou.
Nel 1969, la FIRA lanciò un torneo U19 (under 19), che divenne il più grande incontro di rugby al mondo.
Nel 1995, la FIRA – AER (Associazione Europea di Rugby) è diventata membro dell’IRB e il suo rappresentante è entrato a far parte del comitato dell’IRB.
La FIRA – AER (European Rugby Association) è la più grande organizzazione regionale dell’IRB, con 43 federazioni affiliate. Organizza un torneo europeo per le federazioni continentali, con diverse divisioni (promozione/relegazione) e un torneo giovanile annuale.
Le nazioni che giocano nella massima divisione FIRA-AER competono per la Coppa Europa. Il cosiddetto « Sei Nazioni B » è stato recentemente dominato da Romania, Georgia e Portogallo, anche se Russia, Repubblica Ceca, Spagna e Ucraina hanno ottenuto buoni risultati.
